Correspondence (1880-1895), of Keats, chiefly written from Spokane, to his cousin, Julia Lewis, and uncle, William Lewis, in Flint, Mich., relating to business activities and impressions of Spokane, including information concerning Spokane Bakery and Grocery Company (established by Keats, 1883) and his partnership with B.B. Bravinder (Bravinder & Keats, formed 1887) and its ownership of Echo Roller Mill (flour); correspondence (1872) of William Keats (possibly Keats's brother), written from California and Nevada, relating to life in the West; and letter (1888) from Louis Keats, written from Thompson Falls, Mont., describing his employment as a miner in western Montana.

Albert E. Keats arrived in Spokane Falls in June, 1880. He began working as a clerk in F.R. Moore’s general merchandising business. By late 1883, Keats went into business for himself and established the Spokane Bakery and Grocery Company. In 1887, in partnership with B.B. Bravinder, he bought the Echo Flour Mill.
